Visir Ptah-Hotep

Ptah-Hotep,visir di Djet, penultimo faraone della V dinastia., divenne celebre per aver scritto un libro di insegnamenti, una raccolta di precetti che venne largamente usata nelle scuole del paese.

La solida morale contenuta nelle Massime di Ptah-Hotep insegna il rispetto per l’ordine costituito e la gerarchia. Il testo delle Massime ci è noto attraverso il papiro Prisse (Biblioteca Nazionale di Parigi).

In queste sentenze, scritte circa quattromilacinquecento anni fa, troviamo insegnamenti di valore universale:
” Non ti inorgoglire per quello che sai e non fondare la tua sicurezza sulla tua istruzione.

Accetta i consigli dell’ignorante come del sapiente.
Nessuno giunge all’apice della propria arte, nessun artista attinge alla perfezione.
Un saggio proposito è più raro di una pietra preziosa, ma si può imparare anche dai servi costretti alla mola. Se sei saggio, costruisci una casa e fonda un focolare.

Ama tua moglie come si conviene, nutrila e vestila.
Obbedisci al tuo cuore quanto vuoi, non fare altro nel
