La Villa della Regina sorse nel 1615 per volontà del cardinale Maurizio di Savoia su progetto di Ascanio Vitozzi.
Secondo il modello delle ville romane, fu in seguito arricchita dalla principessa Ludovica nella seconda metà del Seicento e dalle regine sabaude nel corso del Settecento.

Un successivo intervento architettonico fu affidato a Giovanni Pietro Baroni di Tavigliano. L’integrazione stretta tra architettura e arte dei giardini è tuttora leggibile nell’emiciclo posteriore, con le grotte e la catena d’acqua, il rondò e il bel sistema di quinte prospettiche dovuto al Belvedere e al Padiglione dei Solinghi.
La villa, privata di importanti arredi oggi al Quirinale e danneggiata nella seconda guerra mondiale, ha subito un lungo intervento di restauro ed è riaperta al pubblico.
