Alla morte di Smendes il figlio Psusennes ne raccolse l’eredità. Il nuovo sovrano sposò la sorellastra Henouttaoui e un’altra figlia di Smendes.

Psusennes I dal 1040 a.C. al 993 a.C. cercò di attuare una sintesi tra potere faraonico e potere religioso.
