VI RACCONTO TORINO
Era molto preoccupato il portinaio di via Fontanesi 20 in quel lontano giorno del febbraio 1958. Da alcuni giorni non vedeva più un inquilino, tale Mario Giliberti un operaio di vent’otto anni che viveva solo.
Gli era forse capitato qualcosa? Si era sentito male in casa?
Dopo averci pensato un po’ su decise di contattare un parente del Giliberti ed insieme salirono nella stanza in cui il giovane soggiornava e l’aprirono.
La scena che apparve ai loro occhi era cruenta. Il Giliberti, ancora in pigiama, trafitto da numerose coltellate, giaceva in una pozza di sangue. La stanza completamente sottosopra.
Chiamati ad indagare gli inquirenti scartarono subito l’ipotesi rapina, nonostante mancassero alcuni oggetti d’oro, due macchine fotografiche e due sveglie.
Perché gli inquirenti decisero di indagare su altre piste e non sulla quella di una rapina sfociata in tragedia?
Il Giliberti era in pigiama, su un tavolino c’erano due bicchieri con residui di caffè. Sicuramente conosceva il suo assassino, le numerose coltellate fecero poi pensare ad una vendetta .
Forse l’assassino non voleva simulare una rapina, ma cercava qualcosa. Inoltre prima di andarsene scrisse con un dito su uno specchio impolverato:
”Troverete mai l’asino”. (Ovviamente asino per assassino ).
Nel frattempo una strana telefonata giungeva alla redazione del quotidiano Stampa Sera:
”Ho ucciso un uomo sulla via di Po”.
Di maniaci esibizionisti ne esistevano fin troppi, eppure il cronista colse qualcosa nella voce che lo spinse a fare altre domande. L’anonimo interlocutore, però, divenne sospettoso e dopo un laconico “vicino al Po” interruppe la chiamata.
Questo fu l’inizio di uno dei casi più seguiti dall’opinione pubblica di allora.
Il 25 febbraio La Stampa diede notizia del delitto. Il giorno successivo pubblicò una lettera in cui l’omicida spiegava la premeditazione dell’assassinio dettato da uno odio feroce, senza tuttavia fornire un movente.
Intanto nel portafoglio di Giliberti vennero ritrovate alcune fotografie, una in particolare incuriosì gli inquirenti. Mostrava un giovane di bell’aspetto e una dedica: “ai simpaticissimi giorni trascorsi insieme”.
Rintracciato, il giovane spiegò che aveva prestato servizio militare con la vittima.
Fu subito portato a Torino per essere interrogato.
Nel frattempo l’assassino iniziò ad inviare lettere farneticanti al giornale “La Stampa”.
Sono venuto da lontano per VIA
di compiere il mio delitto, da non conFON
dersi con uno qualunque.

in modo da non lasciare traccia NE
anche di un ago. Con un delitto è cessato in SI
eme l’odio per lui. Questa sera parto ore 20
Per comprendere il significato occorre leggere verticalmente la parte terminale di ciascuna riga. Si ottiene così l’ubicazione esatta del delitto: via Fontanesi 20.
L’assassino spedì poi altre missive. Da notare un particolare. Erano scritte in duplice copia e al giornale veniva inviata solo la seconda, quella prodotta con la carta carbone.
Ogni lettera era firmata “Diabolich”, così che alla fine con questo nome, celebre nel campo dei fumetti, fu etichettato il caso di via Fontanesi.
Il giovane sospettato dovette ricopiare la dedica sulla fotografia e alcune lettere inviate da Diabolich per le varie perizie. In effetti qualche somiglianza c’era e venne consultato anche uno tra i periti che allora godeva di maggior fama: padre Girolamo Moretti.
I magistrati ritennero che vi fossero prove a sufficienza, si andava anche delineando una sorta di amicizia più che affettuosa tra la vittima e il giovane indagato, anche se questa fu smentita da chi li conosceva bene.
Quando gli inquirenti ritennero di essere giunti alla conclusione investigativa, arrestarono il giovane che sempre si proclamò innocente.
Quali erano i punti sui cui si basava l’accusa?
Una certa analogia tra la scrittura del sospettato e di Diabolich, alcune frasi nello scambio di missive private tra i due giovani che forse denunciavano un conflitto. Un buco di quattro ore nell’alibi del sospettato nel giorno in cui si pensava fosse avvenuto il delitto. (il giorno non fu mai stabilito con certezza).
Inoltre il giovane disse che non veniva a Torino da almeno tre mesi. Asserzione smentita da qualcuno che l’avrebbe visto nel giorno del crimine.
Determinante fu poi la dichiarazione di un testimone che avrebbe visto la sua auto parcheggiata in via Fontanesi.
Ma in sede di istruttoria ogni indizio fu ribaltato.
Non c’erano prove per il rinvio a giudizio e così dopo trentacinque giorni di prigione il giovane fu scarcerato. Le indagini ricominciarono da capo, fu persino chiamato un sensitivo, ma di Diabolich nessuna traccia.
Fu un delitto perfetto?
Le indagini seguirono una sola pista tralasciando altri indizi?
L’assassino agì con premeditazione od in un impeto di ira?
Domande che non hanno mai avuto risposta.
