A Karnak, nel tempio di Amon-Ra, il rituale probabilmente si svolgeva in una sala a cielo aperto posta contro il muro nord della “Sala delle Feste” di Thutmosi III.
Durante la “festa del nuovo anno” il faraone riceveva energia divina unendosi a suo padre Ra per mezzo del rito detto “unirsi al sole”.
Durante l’epoca tolemaica e romana, nei templi di Edfu e Dendera, furono costruite sui tetti speciali cappelle, nelle quali era portata la statua del dio affinché potesse ricevere i benevoli raggi del sole.
All’inizio di ogni anno, durante una solenne processione, la statua veniva portata sul tetto attraverso un intricato sistema di scale ricavato nel muro e destinato unicamente a questo scopo.
A Dendera il corteo era aperto dalla regina che agitando due sistri, precedeva il faraone e cinquantatre sacerdoti accompagnati dai fedeli festanti che giungevano da ogni luogo.
