Non tutti sanno che Elisabetta I d’Inghilterra, la Vergine regina, era dedita alla magia. Seguace dei culti lunari della dea Iside e che nel suo lungo regno usò simboli, cerimonie e culti della dea egizia.
In molti dipinti viene raffigurata mentre tiene tra le mani un particolare setaccio. Questo è un simbolo esoterico della dea siriana Atargatis, la vergine celeste venerata a Cartagine, e di Cerere dea romana delle messi.
Elisabetta si fece ritrarre con quell’umile utensile per fare conoscere il suo credo occulto. Si identificava sempre con Iside, Atargatis, Cerere, Tanit e con tutte le divinità femminili magiche.
La regina fu protettrice delle arti e delle scienze e soprattutto delle “tecniche sublimi”, come lei stessa definiva la magia superiore, quella degli iniziati.
Si considerava l’incarnazione di Astrea, una delle più antiche divinità, rappresenta con un setaccio in mano con il quale raccoglieva dalle menti degli uomini l’oro dell’intelligenza.
La seconda in un tempio segreto dove fu realizzato il fine supremo dell’incoronazione, il passaggio di chi è destinato a portare la corona dello stato, a quello di divinità.
La regina, nuda come prescriveva il cerimoniale, indossava solo un lungo mantello, al collo un lungo pettorale a forma di mezza luna. Attorno ai polsi ed alle caviglie dei particolari talismani protettivi e sul capo un disco solare come convogliatore di luce.
Il sacerdote che officiava quella particolare cerimonia magica terminava con il fluido divino conferito alla regina mediante l’applicazione delle mani sulla nuca recitando le parole che consacravano in Egitto i faraoni.
“I suoi sortilegi sono sulla sua fronte, le sue difese magiche sono intorno ai suoi polsi ed alle sue caviglie, sul petto, sul capo e dietro la nuca”.
Tutto questo lungo e minuzioso cerimoniale era dominato dall’idea che, imitando esattamente quanto si faceva nell’antichità, munendola di talismani e grazie al potere della magia, la regina si sentisse una dea e come tale operasse.
