Dio Sobek

Venerato nella zona del Fayyum e di Kom Ombo , soprattutto durante la XII e XIII dinastia, dove era considerato lo sposo di Hathor e padre di Khonsu, il dio Sobek veniva rappresentato come un uomo con la testa di coccodrillo o soltanto come un coccodrillo.

Era considerato l’essere dal cui sudore nasceva il Nilo, inoltre era responsabile delle benefiche piene del sacro fiume.
Dio dell’acqua era venerato anche a Sais come “Figlio di Neith” ove esisteva Crocodilopolis una città così chiamata dai greci.

Aveva anche una connotazione negativa quando veniva associato al dio Seth diventando così oggetto della caccia divina.

In numerose scene si può notare Horus trafiggere un coccodrillo con una lancia per annullarne la forza negativa.
