Dea Bastet

La dea Bastet era una divinità rappresentata come una donna dalla testa di gatta.

Probabilmente all’origine era una leonessa. Appartiene al mito di Ra che la vede ultima trasformazione di un ciclo.

L’occhio del sole si era infuriato e trasformatosi in leonessa (Sekhmet) era fuggita in Nubia; qui,raggiunta da Thot, era stata calmata dal dio. Più tranquilla, si trasformò in donna dalla testa di gatta e dall’indole più pacifica.

Dea della città di Bubastis , che da lei prese il nome, fu onorata particolarmente dai sovrani della XXII dinastia.

A volte considerata come una forma poco caratterizzata di Hathor o di Sekmet, ma contrariamente a quest’ultima, che rappresentava i raggi del sole nella loro specificità bruciante, Bastet ha i tratti di una dea benevola.

Nell’epoca del sincretismo, movimento religioso dominato dall’influenza del culto solare, Bastet fu assimilata anche alla “dea lontana”.

Racconta una leggenda che Bastet, morsa da uno scorpione, fu guarita da Ra .
