Il caso della Bela Rinin

C’era una leggera nebbiolina il due ottobre 1925, quando Luigi Ruffino, macchinista del locomotore che trainava il locale in arrivo da Chivasso, aprì il finestrino e decise di fumarsi una sigaretta in attesa del verde.

Le prime luci dell’alba iniziavano ad illuminare la campagna, quando lo sguardo di Ruffino si posò su d’un grosso fagotto vicino ai binari.

Incuriosito scese dal treno, si diresse verso quello strano involto e appena poté osservarlo più da vicino si accorse che ne spuntava un piede.

Nel frattempo altri curiosi avevano seguito Ruffino.

Qualcuno più coraggioso sciolse le corde del macabro involucro da cui spuntarono due gambe femminili con indosso ancora calze e scarpe con i tacchi.

Bastarono quelle gambe per il riconoscimento che fu fatto da Francesco Cattaneo, marito della poveretta.

Vita sventurata la loro.

Erina lavorava sui marciapiedi di Via Saluzzo e Via Berthollet, mentre il Cattaneo era coinvolto in traffici di droga. Alloggiavano all’albergo “Gran Cairo”, uno di quegli alberghi dove nessuno fa domande e nessuno vede nulla.

Dove si possono trovare prostitute e tiratardi, ma anche intellettuali ed artisti in cerca di ispirazione.

Il “Gran Cairo”, si trovava all’angolo tra via Santa Teresa e Via Roma, scomparirà intorno al 1913 quando Torino volle dare un volto nuovo alla sua arteria principale.

Ma torniamo alla povera Erina.

Il primo ad essere messo sotto torchio fu proprio il marito, il quale avendo un alibi più che traballante, fu trattenuto. Intanto altre parti della vittima, il tronco e le braccia, vennero ritrovate in un pacco in via Antinori.

Aveva paura Erina.

Lo dissero alcuni testimoni che l’aveva incontrata giorni prima, era angosciata, ed a loro aveva espresso le sue paure e i suoi timori proprio nei confronti del marito.
Pare che il Cattaneo, alcuni mesi prima, avesse ucciso uno spacciatore di droga, un certo Leopoldo Fleishmann.

Il Cattaneo probabilmente aveva commesso il delitto per questioni di droga e dopo aver dato appuntamento alla vittima in una via che collega Torino a San Vito, lo uccise colpendolo con un colpo di accetta alla testa.

Il crimine suscitò grande eco tanto che la testa dello spacciatore con i segni del trauma, fa parte dei reperti di Traumatologia conservati nel Museo Lombroso di Torino.

Fu il Cattaneo ad uccidere la Bela Rinin per paura che parlasse troppo?

Nel frattempo fu rinvenuta la testa di Erina, da due operai che lavoravano sulla riva sinistra del Po, tra il ponte di Corso Regina Margherita e la passerella Carrara, il tutto avvolto da alcuni fogli de “La Gazzetta del Popolo” del primo ottobre 1925.

Dopo il ritrovamento degli ultimi resti, un uomo che lavorava al “Gran Cairo”, si recò dagli investigatori, raccontando che dalla porta socchiusa della camera in cui alloggiavano Erina ed il marito, aveva visto il Cattaneo e altri due uomini che con carta e corda stavano impacchettando qualcosa di grosso.

L’uomo forse si sarebbe dimenticato di tutto se non fosse stato minacciato:
“Stai zitto, perché se parli ti facciamo la festa”.
Giudicato colpevole il Cattaneo fu condannato a trent’anni, Bestini uno dei complici a cinque e il terzo …

… il terzo non fu mai trovato.
