Nella mitologia celtica gallese Arawn, era il signore dell’Annwn, l ‘oltretomba .
Un luogo remotissimo, posto ad occidente, accessibile anche dai viventi nello stato di sogno, e più raramente fisicamente, come nel caso di Pwill il re del Difes.
E’ un luogo gioioso e comunque sereno, dove le anime dei defunti , uomini animali e piante, si rigenerano in attesa di rinascere e compiere altri cicli di vita.
Il Re e la sua sposa, sono sempre attorniati da mute di cani da caccia, che cercano le anime dei defunti per portarle nell’Annwn.
La corte del re si compone di personaggi che fanno perennemente festa su tavole imbandite in giardini. Uomini donne e bambini, con i loro animali domestici si intrattengono piacevolmente e giocano spensierati.
Il Re spesso è costretto a combattere contro invasori di altri regni (questo non è l’unico regno ultraterreno esistente), respingere mostri o confinare anime malvagie , là dove non possano più nuocere.
Nella mitologia celtica esistevano altri reami più luminosi, ma questo era il posto più vicino e comprensibile agli esseri umani.
