E’ stata ritrovata la tomba del gran visir Imhotep, vissuto intorno al 2800-2600 a.c.
Imhotep è famoso per aver progettato e costruito la piramide a gradoni di Saqqara, in Egitto, dove si trova una vasta necropoli, situata a circa 30 km a sud della capitale Il Cairo.
La missione del Saqqara Geophysical Survey Project, guidata dall’archeologo inglese Ian Mathieson, ha ritrovato due tombe di vaste proporzioni nei pressi della piramide a gradoni del faraone Djoser.
Una di queste tombe, secondo gli archeologi britannici, sarebbe proprio la sepoltura del leggendario Imhotep,
Le due tombe scoperte sono lunghe circa novanta metri metri e larghe circa cinquanta.
“Presentano una struttura interna complicata con un cortile che molto probabilmente introduceva ad un tempio”, ha dichiarato Ian Mathieson.
“Noi riteniamo che una delle due tombe abbia ospitato la mummia di Imhotep. Si tratta infatti di una sepoltura di grande importanza, dove risulta costruita una specie di scala che ricorda proprio la piramide a gradoni fatta costruire dal gran visir di Eliopoli“.
“A nostro parere la scoperta della tomba di Imhotep rappresenta il più grande ritrovamento dopo quello della tomba di Tutankhamon“, ha concluso il direttore della missione archeologica inglese, che opera a Saqqara dal 1990.
